Air mattresses, like water beds, don't provide any upward support. Instead, they rely on displacement . . . not proper support.
Once the soft foam (used near the top surface) compresses, the air bag underneath becomes noticeably stiff. That's why you end up with pressure points at the hips and shoulders. The more weight you put on top of an air mattress, the greater the pressure (and stretching) causing you to continually need to add air.
• No upward support
• Displacement, not proper support
• Broken down upper surface foams
• Pressure on the hips and shoulders
• Constant maintenance
